Pros and cons of changing your religion

When should you choose a different religion? It's like running away from home, you need to be going to somewhere better, not just leaving somewhere uncomfortable.

I wanted to change to a different religion. My current religion was very upsetting. So I just went to another religious group. After I learned more about that religion and the inner workings of that particular church, I was as upset-if not more- than I was originally. Running away from upsetting religious elements doesn't help if you don't know what you're running to.

So when I left the second religion, I decided to learn more about different religions in general and more about myself specifically. Luckily, I have friends in a variety of religions and was able to discuss the basic tenants of each one. Then I found the one that spoke to my heart the most, gave me the freedom to love and grow without the condemnation and judgment, that most of the religions-I had studied-provided.

Eventually, I started on a new path of "light and love." Instead of running from one religion to another, I started on a journey to seek and find. What I found was that one shouldn't run from religion to religion, but listen to his or her own heart. Then you can confidently start upon the path you wish to walk. At each crossroad in your walk, calmly pray or meditate about the best path to take. When you figure out with path to take, you can continue on your journey.

If you are called to another religion-and it should be a calling-find out what religion you're being called to. Don't run from church to church or religion to religion. Study yourself and other religions. Find the one that's right for you. Find the peace and love that you need.
