Poetry: Martyrdom

Remember the Runner's

I hear the harp and singing
Of a time so long ago
he watches from the tower
While the city burns below

Do you hear Nero singing
While music from the harp is played?
A crowed enraged against him
And money for guilt they trade

The shadows of darkness are rolling
While Rome goes up in flame
Nero dispels all suspicion
Christian's. are the ones he'll blame

A candle burns through the darkness
And the wax is melting down
For they walk over the dead of thousands
Still not vanquishing their sound

How many have gone before me?
Their feet through times beating drum
The name's of those are millions
Towards the finish line they run

Can you hear the voice still singing
And the harp call to it's prey?
The winds of time are still blowing
As the darkness seeks to slay

Can you hear the echoes of thunder
As candle's burn bright and low?
The executioners grow weary
As the melted candle's flow

Remembering the Runner's
Faithfully racing for the test
They saw Jesus in their suffering
Now candle's with him they rest

Martyred Saint's who ran before me
I can hear your joyful cries
Add one more name to the millions
If martyred for my prize
