Sadly, this is hardly a difficult question to answer (in my opinion). While we cannot deny the massive leaps and bounds we have made towards equality, especially in the Western world, we cannot measure where we are today by how far we've come. Rather, must measure it against the what it should be.
If we look at this issue from the context of North American society, it is easier to assume that the favoritism toward males is no longer an issue. However, even in our seemingly progressive society, inequality is rampant. While we cannot look at all aspect, let's explore a few.
On average, women get paid only 77 cents for every dollar of full-time work that men get paid for. And this is only once they get hired, since men with the same qualifications are significantly more likely to be hired. Add to this racism and you find that African American women make only 66.8 cents for every dollar a white man makes, Hispanic women only 54 cents! Consider the lifelong impact of this loss, not only to the women, but to their families. (Visit http://www.wageproject.org/ for more details)
This one topic barely brushes the surface of the inequality in one area, but in and of itself is represents enough to warrant the "Yes!" to this question. And this in the relatively progressive society we live in here. If we were to expand this question into the broader context of the world, there would be no question at all.
I am not suggesting that we cannot acknowledge and even celebrate the massive steps forward we have made- in fact, we must do so! However, let us not use these victories to justify complacency in this very important task.
