Dogs truly do fit the analogy of man's best friend. It is wonderful to return home after a stressful day and be greeted by your loyal canine. To be able to wile away a few minutes playing with your trusted companion. When his energy wanes to have him curl up on your lap, gazing at you adoringly with unconditional love. It is their natural instinct to interrelate with people. Many large dogs will walk in a squatting position when faced with a small child, showing both their affection and understanding for their vulnerability.

They are very clever, easily learning to respond to commands. Displayed in the excellent role they play as leader dogs whether for the blind, deaf or handicapped, yet still being loving companions. Even, the police dogs, extensively trained, intermingle with their owners families and children becoming a devoted member of the household.

Cats on the other hand are difficult to domesticate, still on the hunt when a bird or some type of vermin crosses their paths. They are nocturnal creatures, happiest when they are following their natural instincts getting into scrapes as they satisfy their need for wanderlust at night.

They are not as responsive to their owners, responding in their time. They can sometimes be unsociable and disdainful, not as prone to seek out a comfortable lap, preferring to be more solitary. I for one am proud to be a dog lover, it is a pleasure and an honour to have had one of this world's greatest creations in my home.
