Siberian Huskies.... Hollywood has immortalized them as the loving highly energetic and highly intelligent breed of dog that can help man and/or themselves out of any perilous situation. They pull sleds, they have a never ending loyalty and they have a majestic appearance that can draw the attention of even the most cold hearted.

Hollywood aside, what is it like to own a Siberian Husky? Well for myself I consider myself blessed to own two of these amazing animals. I cant really speak for their ability to pull sleds or pull me out of an iced over lake, but I can tell you this...

Owning a Siberian Husky is a pleasure, but it is not for everyone. The Husky is beautiful, intelligent and more energetic than you can possibly imagine. As with any dog, a Husky owner must be sure that their personality matches the breed. That being said, lets explore the joys of owning a Husky and figure out if a Husky is the right breed for you.

1. Siberian Huskies have an insatiable hunger for activity. If you are looking for a dog that is just content to spend their entire life laying next to your rocking chair while you read the paper, then you are looking at the wrong breed. This breed is best matched with an active lifestyle.

2. Siberian Huskies shed... and then they shed some more. While it is true that they do not shed year round, they only shed twice a year, you must prepare yourself for the amount of hair that they will lose in one shedding session. Think of shaving a Labrador Retriever and then add half of that and you have an idea of what you are getting into. That gorgeous hair comes with a cost. However, they are readily willing to partake in brushing sessions and these sessions can be very pleasurable for both you and your buddy!

3. Siberian Huskies are amazingly intelligent. You can teach them anything and they simply exude a sense of intelligence at all times. They are attentive and willing to learn most anything.

4. Siberian Huskies are grace defined. Watching a Husky run is a sight that all should experience. The stride is perfect and the speed is amazing. There is nothing clumsy or forced about a Husky, they truly are the athletes of the dog world.

5. Siberian Huskies have a thirst for knowledge. This makes them the perfect hiking or exercise companion. That being said, this thirst for knowledge can lead to an excursion without you. Any Husky owner can tell you, they have seen the rear end of their Husky disappearing around the corner and out of ear shot before they even
