Tips for removing coffee stains from your clothing

Coffee stain? No problem! Spilled coffee always looks much worse than it really is. Working as a waitress for many years, and inevitably spilling various things all over my white shirts, has turned me into something of a stain removal expert. The secret? Club Soda.

Club soda will take out practically any stain. It is inexpensive, available almost anywhere, and easy to use. It has no odor, no color, and does not contain allergens. It also dries quickly, which is helpful when you are unable to remove the garment. It is the only stain remover I ever use, both at work and at home.

Simply wet the stained area with club soda and rub with a clean cloth. If it does not come out immediately, soak the stain in club soda overnight, then launder the garment as usual. Try to get at the stain immediately, or at least as soon as possible. It will be easier to remove if it is treated before it dries. Be sure to treat the stain before regular laundering. If the garment is washed and dried without treating the stain, the stain will set in the fabric and will be very difficult, if not impossible to remove.

There are many stain removal products on the market, and most of them are very effective. They are also expensive, usually strongly scented, and with the exception of the convenient stain remover "pens" now available, not always easily accessible. Club soda will do the trick for coffee stains, and many other stains, wherever you happen to be. In my line of work, coffee is the most frequently spilled, yet the least worrisome of the spills that end up on my white shirt.
