often feature a larger variety of interesting foods. Many restaurants offer appetizers that are big enough to satisfy, especially if you order a salad along with them.
Prevention point #2: Take control of your portions.
You can also order an entre to share with your dining partner. Many people will recommend asking your server to wrap up half of your meal before you begin; I've always been too self-conscious to try this, but I find that cutting my entre in half before beginning the meal helps me focus on eating a more appropriate portion size.
Prevention point #3: Eat mindfully.
If these options sound a little too extreme, try simply cutting unnecessary carbohydrates from your meal. Often you will find that you can be completely satisfied by the meat and veggies portion of your entre; unfortunately, many of us tend to snack mindlessly on the breadbasket or fries and then eat our entire entre without realizing that we've already eaten half a meal's worth of empty carbs.
The last thing to keep in mind is that one night of overeating will not make or break you. Don't get frustrated if you have a hard time keeping yourself on track; take every meal as a new chance to make healthy choices, and make sure you acknowledge your successes enthusiastically.
