Tips for packing light

Packing is torturous and there are always decisions to be made about what is essential and what isn't and to each individual this means a different thing. Priorities have to be assessed to suit the individual's needs and a real voyage of honesty taken about all those items laid out ready to pack and whether or not they will make the journey easier or indeed are essential to the enjoyment of the holiday.

We have all done it, and certainly been in that situation where at the end of a holiday, we come home laden with goodies that we bought, and somewhere in the corner of the suitcase there will be that item of clothing we took in case we needed it and never did.

Ladies and girls.

Ladies need a variety of clothing, though instead of carrying a whole host out outfits, does it not make better sense to mix and match those items wherever possible, converting that sun dress into evening wear as the need arrives. Flexibility is essential, and deciding the priorities, looking at the brochures and knowing in advance the kind of events you will take part in and the clothing you will need will help you to make decisions on how to lighten the load. Do you really need all those shoes ? Makeup bags should only carry the essentials and certainly packing gives you a chance to see just how ingenious you can be in packing the minimum, and using it to maximum effect.

Having an idea of the temperatures that your holiday offers is wise as well, since many items can be washed and used again easily in hot climates. There are so many easily folded items that don't require ironing and these are ideal for holidays, lightweight and stunning, coming in a whole range of styles to suit all ages. Ladies and girls underwear is relatively light, and again if traveling to warmer climes, can always be washed out overnight as well as light shorts and t shirts.

Men and boys

Men need to look nice too, although here the choices may be simpler. Underwear can be washed out and there certainly isn't the need to carry too much. Shirts can be washed as well though here choosing those items that are lightweight poly cotton will mean that they will wash out easily without the need for ironing. If you wear your heaviest shoes, then the packing can be kept to a minimum weight. Trousers and shorts should be chosen for their lightweight qualities as well, and if a thicker pair is needed, wear them, so that they retain their smartness and mean that your bag is lighter. T shirts are relatively light
