How to date your spouse

Well, for a guy, it's a great idea. There's never his anxiety of wondering if he's going to score. Bad joke? Seriously, no matter how long you've been married, the husband ... and wife, too ... should set up frequent date nights. They certainly should be scheduled for birthdays, anniversaries and other significant shared important events. Better yet, they may be even more enjoyable if they happen spontaneously or as a special surprise.

We've been married more than 41 years, and we still set up dates. We have a favorite restaurant, and always sit at the same table and each of us orders his/her favorite menu choice. It is just a much of a pleasure today as it ever was.

For a dozen years after I retired, we went through the travel books together and made many shared one- and two- and three-week dates to travel in the US, Asia, South America and Europe. We also took at least one cruise together, and those are perfectly designed to be 24-7 dates of touring, dining and dancing pleasures.

Age and screwed-up world conditions have forced us to cut back on the extended cruises and overseas trips, and we confine our dates to local restaurants. That is, with one exception. A one-hour flight takes us to the dating capital of the world, Las Vegas. There we can shed the years to party, dine, dance, gamble and just plain enjoy all the fun and decadence.

However, no matter how romantic our mood is, we always request a Vegas hotel room without the mirror on the ceiling. We hate waking up after a hot date to see two sleepy old people staring back at us.
