Poetry: Loneliness

"Emptiness"

Lying here waiting
Thoughts churning in my head
Painstakingly turning
While I am tangled in my bed
Defeat pours over me
Only the slightest glimpse of hope
The room keeps spinning
Tell me, how do I cope?
I lost something precious
Hell, I through it away
I will never get it back
Emptiness is here to stay
But it's not the loneliness that gets me
Or the piece of heaven that I saw
It's the glimpse of hope
It's what hurts most of all
If I knew there was no way
To retrieve what I lost
I could move on more easily
No more pain, no more cost
They say a dream is a beautiful thing
But I believe it is a nightmare
For to see what I can not touch
Is surely something I can not bear
To wake with my arms reaching
And a sweet taste lingering upon my lips
Only darkness to meet my eyes
And air to my fingertips
So I will hope to stay awake
Laying wrapped in my sheets
For to dream of such things
Only pain, my morning will meet.
