Ignoring the inner glutton within us all

No one wants to Super Size their body, yet everyday people all over the world super size their meals without even thinking about the consequences.

Overeating has become such a social norm that we have become a generation that doesn't know what a real serving size is. Whether it is soda, a hamburger or anything else it is important to know what a serving really is.

I have learned three things that I feel are helpful in order to develop a healthy eating lifestyle while still enjoying all the foods I love without overeating.

Eat Regular Meals:

If we skip meals and allow ourselves to become famished, we will many times end up eating everything in sight when we do finally eat.

By eating small meals and snacks throughout the day we can avoid the feeling of being famished which will allow us to make healthier choices concerning the foods we eat and the portions of those foods.

I generally eat 4 to 6 times per day. This keeps me from ever feeling completely famished. Which in turn allows me the time needed to make healthy choices concerning food and portions.

Learn Normal Portion Sizes:

Many times people don't realize they are overeating because they don't know what a portion size really is. Have you ever looked at a single serving bag of chips? There are actually two servings in that little bag. A bottle of pop actually has two serving in one bottle.

We must learn to read labels and watch serving sizes if we want to avoid the pitfalls of overeating. It may sound confusing at first however, if you will read labels and get used to eating normal portion sizes it will become easy to recognize a single serving just by looking.

Listen to Your Body:

When we learn to pay attention to our body, not only will we know when we are running low and need to refuel we will also know when we are full and need to stop.

It is always wise to stop eating before feeling stuffed. That stuffed feeling is our body saying too much food has been consumed. Eating slowly and allow your body sufficient opportunity to tell you when to stop eating.

It is wise to stop occasionally during each meal take a drink and evaluate how you feel. Are you still hungry? Do you feel satisfied? Are you nearing the point of being stuffed? It is best to stop eating once we reach the feeling of being satisfied. If you ask yourself those questions and realize you are still hungry then eat a little more and evaluate again.

At first, this may seem a little hard. However, with time you will be able to recognize quite quickly how much food you need in order to be satisfied without overeating.
