Preparation for your first dance performance

Pre-show jitters- everyone has them. For a first-timer, however, the jitters seem to work in hyper-mode. There really is no one way to prepare yourself for your first dance performance. Why? Simply because everyone handles stress and nervousness differently. For some, it helps to run through choreography right before show-time. Others, on the other hand, prefer to sit and listen to the music while running through the choreography in their head. Above all, "relaxation" is the key word.

As a dancer, I feel it is extremely important to think positive and imagine yourself executing all of your moves. Picture yourself on stage wowing the audience by your amazing performance! Thoughts are a powerful and pervasive force and will translate to the audience when you dance. So you definitely want to make sure that you begin in the right mindset and remain calm and confident before you set foot on the dance floor.

And of course, you want to make sure that you are well stretched, limber and ready to dance your "rock your body," as Justin Timberlake would say. Remember, you only want to break a leg- you don't want to break both of them.
