Do diet shakes really help lose weight

Late last year, I purchased a well known brand of diet shakes. According to the directions, I was to start the program, by replacing every single meal with a diet shake. This was just fantastic, I thought, as the shakes really gave me a fulfilled feeling, and overall, I lost 12 kilograms in the first six weeks.

The next stage was to have only two meals replaced with the shakes, and eat one normal, halthy meal per day.

I decided to have a normal lunch and was eating very healthy with foods like steamed fish with salad. No dressings were allowed, so I saturated everything with lemon juice.
Although I was exercising, my weight remained the same. I began to feel a bit cheated, so went back to replacing all my meals with the shakes again.

The weight began to fall off again, but I knew I couldn`t live on shakes alone forever, plus I was beginning to feel deprived.

I then went back to normal, healthy meals. Eating three, well balanced meals every day, in small portion sizes. My weight has now ballooned back on, and now I weigh even more than what I did before I started the program.

I beleive diet shakes are only useful if you need to lose heaps of weight for a short, immediate term. Ideal, if you want to fit into your wedding dress, or need to have an operation, but have been deemed too obese to operate on by the surgeon. For the long term however, it has only made your body hold all its body fat. You only are losing muscle and not body fat.Once you eat normal again, your body just holds onto everything.

Diet companies make millions each year from people like me, trying to lose weight, but that will be the last cent they get from me!
