Gift giving is one of the better capitolist inventions... It's the one thing that can truly clasify people... You can tell almost everything about a person by how they give gifts. And the gifts they give. From the one who scrapes everything to get the perfect gift for that special person, to the one who buys a giftcard and is angered when the receiver doesn't act ecstatic.

Now, lets start off by explain why we give gifts... I feel there are four reasons to give gifts... Mind you these aren't bound togeter by other smaller reasons...

The first reason we give gifts, are because our society indicates that it is the correct action to do such. This includes birthday's, Holiday's, anniversaries... And many other events. I sadly think that most people really only give gifts on these days because it is instilled in them that it is required... Rather than the reason which should truly be behind the gift... To show someone how you care. Through an object rather than other things.

The second reason we give people gifts is to apologize. Yes. Many gifts are given as a sorry... We have no idea how to make the other person happy, so we give a gift in hopes it will take away their pain(Or at least what we've done heh.). This isn't neccesarily a bad reason to give a gift... But it is a more used reason to randomly give gifts.

The third reason I wish to share with you is affection. This is the reason behind another majority of gift giving... You give these gifts in hopes it'll show how you care about that person. Maybe because you saw it and thought just of them, or because you don't know how to properly say what you feel... These gifts are generally the ones straight from the heart. Though I will say... Some people do use them in hopes of getting someone by simply impressing.

The fourth and last reason(Mind you I'm not saying their aren't more.) that people mainly give gifts, is in hopes for recognition. We all do it and we all enjoy it. This was the reason most of us made Macaroni necklaces in preschool. And this is also the reason why most people have those strange things in their homes that they really didn't even know existed until we gave it to them.(Paper weights.)

Joking aside... Those are the main reasons we give gifts, and of course each of those reasons has a type of person who gives them. I feel I will simplify this... As it does make it far easier.
