The psychological approach to success

Title: Succeed as Yourself
Article: Who are you? Do you know the answer to that question? Most people haven't taken the time to adequately figure the answer to that question. The rest of the world will try to tell who to be, and in many respects we must abide by societal norms.

But one will not be happy unless they remain true to their convictions, anything else will result in dissatisfaction, cognitive dissonance, depression, and perhaps even a psychotic break.

The world doesn't like individuals, despite all the rhetoric. For the most part, we don't like seeing people pull themselves-it reminds us that despite all of the excuses and rationalizing, that we are, in fact, responsible for our own life. Everyone likes to blame. Pointing a finger is a lot easier than taking a step forward.

The road is not easy, especially, when one considers how we sabotage many of our own efforts long before anyone else gets a chance to get in our way. Our own fear, indecision, and internal conflicts tend to get in the way of the simplest life changes. Not to mention, that all too often, psychologists, counselors, therapists, and even spiritual mentors fail to understand the power of our thought, and it's very specific nature.

You see, if you keep telling yourself, "I want this", then you are only reinforcing in your mind your want and obvious lack of something. You're mind, and thus your reality, will only work to reinforce your want-not the actual obtaining of your want. Deep inside, we all want to change. We all have aspects that could be improved, with a little or a lot of work. However, the same earlier rule applies. If I continue to want to change I will not. I must leave the reality of "wanting to change" and enter the change I want. I must also remember, that if I want to get rid of a bad habit, I must not focus on the bad habit itself. I will only reinforce that which I think about. James Allen, Jesus Christ, Siddartha Gautama, and so many others have shown us that this is the case. To get away from something, do not focus on what you are trying to get away from, but rather focus on what you are trying to get to-and then do away with that whole notion of "try". As Yoda said, "there is no try, only do or do not."

Indeed, remember these few things-that you must be self-efficient and live your own life for you-no one else will raise you up. And you must remember that you can either control your own mind or be a slave to it. As long as you understand the fact that you mind is like a literal computer whose repeated thoughts program it in a quite literal manner. If you want more joy in your life, feel joy now and hold on to it. If you want to be healthy now, live healthfully now. If you want to be wealthy, accept that you can be wealthy, that there's nothing wrong with being wealthy, and begin saving more than you spend.

Life is really a matter of perspective and action. Who are you? What are you doing? And what do you want? Define yourself. Do what brings you true satisfaction without betraying your own goals or contradicting your own beliefs. Stop wanting, and be grateful for what you have while working (not wishing) to obtain that which will make you more complete.
