Assessing the future of Myspace

These days it seems that almost everyone on the face of the Earth has a Myspace page. Be it either you, your next door neighbor, that pen pal of yours who lives in another state, your co-workers, The President of the United States, a mass murderer, or that nutcase claiming to be a fictional character. Sometimes, celebrities and businesses have a Myspace page.

Myspace these days is the rave for young people from middle school to college. I do not have to name any sources on this fact because it is common knowledge. The same can be said about some schools prohibiting the use of Myspace. As far my opinion goes on those schools cracking down on students with Myspace accounts would have to be mixed. I for one can understand why educators are prohibiting the use of Myspace in certain schools. This is done as a safety measure to protect students from Internet stalkers. I understand this reason for prohibiting Myspace from certain schools because if one were to watch the six o' clock news, there is always some report on another middle school student being raped and murdered by someone they met on Myspace. I understand that reasoning in full.

However, a part of me is against the prohibiting of Myspace from both middle and high school for many reasons. I support the use of Myspace in public schools because Myspace allows students to keep in contact with one another relating to issues involving schoolwork. An example of this would be something of this nature: Let's say there is a group of students: Jack, Mike, Lucas and Don. The teacher has just assigned a group project to these students. Now, Mike, Jack, and Lucas have Myspace Profiles whereas Don does not have a Myspace. Lucas, Mike, and Jack are on each other's "Friend's List". They are also in the habit of sending each other messages via Myspace Messaging. That way, Jack, Mike and Lucas can keep in touch with each other in the event one of these three youths is unable to attend class for the Class Presentation relating to the group project. As mentioned before, Don does not have a Myspace Profile. Yet, Don is the keeper of the group's notes on the project. This presents a problem because Don is unable to communicate with Mike, Lucas or Jack about anything relating to project, such as Don not being able to show up to class on the day of the Presentation. Had Don acquired him a Myspace Profile, he might have been able to communicate with his fellow classmates relating to the Class Project.

Of course, arguments against
