There is an adage that goes along the lines "I used to complain about having no shoes until I met a man who had no feet". How often have we thought that we are at the lowest point in our lives only to realize or worse still, not even consider that there are others out there are worse off than ourselves?
The first step towards coming back into the fold and having another go at life is to come to terms with where you are presently at. Put your life or circumstances into perspective. Without first establishing that perspective there is no chance of preparing the road map that will eventually lead you out as and when the opportunities arise.
You might be broke or have just lost broken up with a lover yet everyday people recover from similar circumstances and come back happier and even better for it. If it is happening to you now it has happened to thousands of others beforehand and probable worse than where you are presently at or what you are experiencing.
Once you have come to terms with the perspective of your difficulties, the second phase is to rebuild a positive attitude in your own abilities to recover. You are in at the bottom of the pit. Instead of looking at the walls and thinking how difficult they are to scale, look up to the light and see that your objective is available no matter how far it seems nor how difficult the task to reach it. Robert the Bruce of Scotland, as legend would have it, sat in a cave and watched the spider try and fail and then try and try again to build his web recognizing his own path to success as King of Scotland would entail multiple setbacks along the way.
With perspective and attitude managed, comes defining the path you are to take, building the road map. We would all wish we could be an hotel heiresses or the son of an oil mogul but for most we need to set achievable goals first and foremost without losing sight of the ultimate goal. In my own case I write these small articles to make a living yet still see myself one day on the New York Times Best Seller List.
With these three aspects covered, you need to seek good advice. You wouldn't ask the guy who rents the welfare funded flat next door how to become a real estate tycoon, the same can be said for anything that is important. Good advice on how to set to where you want to go will be cheaper and more beneficial in the long run than bad advice.
The final key to recovery is to believe in your own self worth. The only person who can achieve the results you want is you. If the same guy next door tells you can't do something or reach the goals you have set, stop talking to him about them because he knows nothing. Some of the greatest success stories are about people who truly believe in themselves and would not let anyone knock them down, why should you.
So there you have it, the keys to recovery are simple. Put your problem into perspective, establish a positive attitude, set manageable goals, obtain good advice along the way and believe in your ability to obtain them.
