How to avoid overeating

We all know how to prevent over eating. Chances are you will not read anything new here, but you may be reminded or inspired and maybe have a laugh. That's the best I can offer.

When my Mom was on a diet we were served a plate with the perfect portions on them. Leftovers were put in the freezer before dinner even began. You knew that you had two choices for dinner. It was take it or leave it. There would be no seconds are substitutions. We were going to be healthy and loose weight together. At least at dinnertime and under my mother's watchful eye there was no overeating. I can say the habit of putting away the leftovers as soon as the plates are full is something that stuck with me. It helps to hurry the clean up process and the picking of food that sometimes happens as we are putting things away.

If your candy dishes are full of candy replace it with marbles. It helps you realize how often you reach for candy without even thinking about it.

At the restaurant get your to go box with your meal and put half of it away before you start eating. This one truly works for me and I find that my time with friends is much more enjoyable. I am not stuffed and sleepy at the end of the meal.

Make a food plan for the day and stick with it. This doesn't mean you can't have a treat. You just need to plan for it and make adjustments.

Eat breakfast. Your insulin needs to be balanced to control hunger and binging. Breakfast is a good place to start.

Eat slowly so your body has a chance to register that it is no longer hungry. Set your fork down between each bite. Keep your bites small the chew your food well. (I wouldn't go so far as to count the number of chews, but some of my friends do.

Remember to eat what you need, not just what you want and this should help put the brakes on.
