Saving money on gasoline may seem impossible, but there are a few things that you can do to get more miles for your buck.
.) Make A Plan don't make a special trip to the grocery store for one item. Keep a list and go once a week. For in between trips don't go out of the way, instead use your local store. While running errands, combine them into one trip or split them into groups based on location. Take advantage of public transportation. Carpooling, telecommuting, bicycling, and walking can also help you save money on gasoline.
.) Be Flexible avoid driving during morning, lunch, and after work rush hours. Take advantage of flexible work hours or overtime whenever possible. Stop and go traffic shortens your gas mileage and wrecks havoc on your vehicles engine.
.) Practice Proper Maintenance keeping your tires recommended inflation at all times to increase your gas mileage by up to 3%. Avoid oversized tires with deep treads. Replacing an old air filter increases your gas mileage by up to 10% and replacing an oxygen sensor increases it by up to 40%. Remove roof racks when you are not toting items around to decrease the drag in the car's aerodynamics and lower your gas mileage.
.) Be Smart And Be Safe don't step on the brake pedal to halt your car at the last minute. Accelerating and braking rapidly decreases your gas mileage. Obey speed limits. Every mile you drive over 65 miles per hour decreases your gas mileage by up to 7%. Avoid tailgating to prevent rapid stops. On hills allow your vehicle to pick up speed going downhill by braking less to make next climb easier. Avoid cruise control on rough terrain and use it instead on freeways to increase fuel efficiency.
.) Evaluate Your Habits while waiting in traffic, turn off the air conditioner. When waiting in line turn the car's engine off to avoid wasting gasoline. If you have a gas guzzling vehicle, consider selling it, or buying an additional vehicle that is fuel efficient to use for your daily commute.
