Hydrogen fuel cells can be used as a stop gap measure if hydrogen can be generated in an efficient and cheap manner that does not take oil. Electric cars will be widely accepted as a better and cheaper option when they can go 250 miles or more between charges and charge in a short enough time to make long distance travel convenient. Solar cells should be cheap enough that they are a cost effective replacement for other roofing materials when they are this inexpensive they will provide additional impetus for electric cars as the savings only become more apparent if one doesn't have to pay for fuel.

Let's do what needs to be done to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels. Let's quit wasting time insulting people for their energy usage and work on technologies that allow everyone to have the highest standard of living without the need for fossil fuels. Let's make our reasons for this practical reasons that everyone can agree with. The benefits of moving away from fossil fuels are self evident but sometimes the environmental arguments obscure other reasons that most people find more compelling. Let's quit fighting the inevitable an direct our energies instead to solutions for the long term.
