The choice in getting a laptop or desktop may not be a simple one, or at least, may not be as easy as some might guess. The fact is that laptops are superior to desktops in today's computing environment, although they are marginally more expensive in certain markets, are susceptible to theft, and can frequently break down.

If one is determined to stay at home, and requires the ease of accessibility options, then getting a desktop is the best and perhaps most affordable method of computer use. Desktops are sturdier because they are not portable, and offer the convenience that elderly users require.

Laptops are of course the prime choice for the modern, savvy user. While they provide the speed and features of many desktops, they also provide the portability and convenience for people on the go. Laptops are more expensive to own, on average, when compared to identically "specced" desktop machines. However, laptops will give users the satisfaction of being connected to the internet wherever they are.

Laptops are certainly better for most users, and in even gaming laptops have eclipsed the previous notion that only desktops were computing powerhouses. In the end, if one could only choose one type, the laptop (also known more commonly as notebooks) is the better choice.
