A story about a second chance.
A rich merchant purchased an item of great value, a gemstone, said to be the most brilliant in all the world.
In addition to the costs of acquiring this most precious possession the merchant spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on a high tech security system. He changed the passwords remotely from his computer by the minute, monitoring his remote cameras and checking his security while out on his business affairs and travels across the world. He trusted no one, not even his own family with the gemstone and became distant, and cold. All he could think about was protecting his precious stone.
The merchant had not slept in days, which wore onto weeks, all he could think about was the stone. His business, and family suffered, his wife left his side and he was alone.
One day a clever thief got past the security and ran off with the gemstone, without a trace. At first the merchant was devastated. He withdrew from the world even more. In his solitude he came to recognize that this gemstone, for all its worth, was only a burden. He was happy then to be rid of it.
Sometimes when we grasp that second chance, the first step is to evaluate what is truly important. What do you really need in life? Discover your self, those around you, and the greatness in life. Take on only what you can handle and master it. Appreciate the very breath you take in. Find your self, defined by who you are, not by your job title, or your marital status, but by who you are as a genuine individual, free of social binary. That person knows what you need for your second chance in life.
