Travel experiences: A little bit of heaven in the Caribbean

Well, I've just stepped off Captain Morgans' Dive Boat and my feet are now safely back on land and my fingers are back at the old keyboard. 9 days, have passed since I last made contact with the world. And yet again it was 9 days made up of new and unforgettable experiences. Highlights include: WHALE SHARKS (I'm not even kidding here - I swam with 2 Whale Sharks today!).

However, I feel it would be appropriate to begin at the beginning where I left off, all the way back at Day 58. I left for the Island of Utila 9 days ago. The journey began with company in the form of a French Canadian from Quebec (Frederick), he has been traveling around the world for the last 4 years while still in part time employment (he's a website designer for a theatre ticket company), he can go anywhere he wants as long as he can access the Internet. We boarded the Boat to Utila together and recounted our tales of places we had both been, I focused on the horizon for the hour long journey keen not to fall prey to sea sickness in the rough sea (strangely the waves were kicking up high that day keen to upset the passengers on the small vessel).

Upon arriving in Utila the first thing you notice after you get through the throng of dive company salesman is the change in vibe from mainland Honduras. Firstly everyone speaks English (Once again I'm thankful for the old Empire and its Navy in Colonising an Island in the Sun), however, the English they speak isn't always that understandable - its a mix of "Creol" (Pirate English found in Belize) and Caribbean Island English mixed with a little Spanish. Knowing that i wasn't due to be at the Iguana Station until Monday morning I set forth in search of a place to stay - I picked wisely and found myself at a budget exotic retreat in the banana trees of the Island with its own pool and hot tub "Mango Inn". Mango Inn turned out to be cheap and cheerful while at the same time remaining a great place to get my bearings on the Island of Utila.

The next thing I noticed about being on Utila; suddenly I was surrounded by tourists and backpackers once again, just like in Antigua this is a destination that attracts the travelers. Utila unfortunately is the first place where I would encounter the wrong kind of Backpacker/Traveller. For some reason whenever certain folk leave the confines of their birthplace in the odd case you get one or two who still think they're back in the school playground. I discovered to my dismay on the first morning in Utila its not
