Imagine a child's swing at a playground. Gently rocking back and forth, and you'll notice a rhythmic flow of energy slowly increasing in velocity as the swing reaches higher towards parallel.
That's the movement you can easily replicate in your golf swing. Here's how.
Loosely grip 2 long irons in your hands and gently initiate the swing with a press forward of a foot or two. You'll notice the clubs moving back the same distance and then forward again. Increase in small increments, with as little muscular assistance as possible. Allow the weight of the club heads to swing freely. Complete the movement by naturally holding the club in a finishing position.
Do this for 3 or 4 minutes until your muscles are completely warmed. You'll begin to feel the rhythm.
Now imagine a high fade in your minds eye. So the swing path needs to be a little outside in. Start the movement again, allowing the weight of the clubs do the rest and then hold your finishing position. You'll notice a slight difference in the finish. Hold this position for a moment or two.
Do the same for a high draw. An inside out movement. A low bump and run. Any shot you care to imagine can be visualized in this way. Most importantly allow a free swinging motion, with natural power generation.
This free flowing exercise can be incorporated into your regular pre-shot routine, and is an excellent device to achieve natural rhythm and flow, and improve your "swing" . With a little practice you'll start hitting it longer with less effort. It really is childsplay.
