Predicting what country George Bush will invade next

I don't need John McCain singing "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" to the tune of the Beach Boys "Barbara Ann", or Joe Lieberman bold-face lying on the 24-hour news networks, to tell me that Iran will be the next country invaded by President Bush. It's a no-brainer. The drum beat for War with Iran is deafening from Fox, CNN and MSNBC. The same journalists that wrote so eloquently in justifying war with Iraq in 2002/2003 are now writing similarly eloquent pieces about the need to invade Iran. Unless he is impeached, Bush will invade Iran before he leaves office in Jan 2009.

There are three US Navy Aircraft Carrier groups in the Persian Gulf, and if you get out an atlas and look at the bottleneck at the Strait of Hormuz, that narrow channel where tankers exiting the gulf and warships entering rub noses, its an ideal spot for a "gulf of Tonkin"-esque event to occur.

The Masters of War at the Pentagon don't want this war, and least not now. Thanks to the Iraq War, they don't have the troops, they don't have the support of the American people, and they know war with Iran will certainly bring harsh economic, and perhaps military, retaliation from Russia and China, who do lots of business with Iran. Unfortunately, its out of their hands. They can advise, but, as he's stated so clearly in the past, Bush "is the decider." If Bush wants a war, he's get a war.

An am no lover of the Iranian government. The Islamic Revolutionaries there are evil and backward. But rewind back to the late 90's, when gasoline was around $1.50 a gallon, oil was similarly cheap, and the mullahs of Iran weren't swimming in petrodollars. Back then the Iranians weren't talking about nuclear programs, they were talking about revolution. About overthrowing the Islamic Government. The young people were excited about American ideals, values, and culture that they were being exposed to via the internet. Without petrodollars to prop up their regime, the hateful and close-minded ideology of the Mullahs looked ready to crumble from within. Freedom seemed inevitable in Iran.

Unfortunately, the wrong guy won-excuse me-was awarded the Presidency by the US Supreme Court, in 2000. George Bush's stewardship destroyed any hope of revolution from within in Iran. His wars and energy policy drove oil and gas prices skyward. As a country sitting on a huge proven reserve of oil, Iran's coffers swelled with petrodollars during the Bush Presidency, making it easy for the ruling party to suppress the will of the people.

And that, my friends, brings us to 2007. Everything the news media and the President says indicates we MUST invade Iran. But is it possible that, much like the case in 2003 with Iraq, the President and the media are lying to us?
