The Democrats are gaining more small Internet donations then the Republicans not because they are more web savvy, but because their voters are web savvy. The Democratic candidates are targeting young voters like never before. The 18-25 age group is the largest group of voters in the country but because of a severe lack of interest in current issues, most politicians have never tried to gain their support beyond simple "Rock the Vote" rallies. But a new time has come. With the country in a state of political turmoil, the young generations have started to take more of an interest in the present and what lies ahead for them in the future. They are becoming more aware of the fact that they need to start taking a part in the democratic process that will decide what things will be like when they are having kids, and when they are working and even when they are retiring. The Democrats are offering change. They are offering a fresh face on American politics, after eight years of a Republican lead government that has made most people lose interest in what is going on in Washington D.C. Young Americans are trying to make sure that what is happening right now is not what is going to happen when the most crucial times of their lives are taking place. So they are donating as much money as they can, and participating in every way possible for these candidates. And in today's society, the best way a 20 year college student can volunteer, is to run a website, make a small donation or send out mass e-mails. All these things leading to an overwhelming domination of the Internet by candidates appealing to the people who run the Internet. The Republicans would be smart to spend less time looking for old money, and start talking to the people who are going to be making the money in a few years. The hey to success in 2008, is worrying about the people who are going to be running the country in 2020.
