When you think about DC universe your mind conjures up Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman and the JLA

Any comic book nerd stays faithful to knowing his universe, inside and out. It is the comic universe that expands the imagination and puts a world in a book. The problem is that both Marvel and DC have both pros and cons with their universe.
Here is my thoughts.

Writers and Artists:
Marvel takes the cake on this one because they have a steady stable of committed artists and writers that follow in the tradition of Stan Lee. You will be hard pressed to find a Captain America series or a Spider Man series that isn't filled with the influence of Mike Perkins or Ed Brubaker. A faithful team is necessary for drawing the reader.

DC struggles with this because they do not have such a faithful crew. Many of the artists and writers who take on Batman and Superman have strange concepts. That's when you start getting weird offshoots from the series like a Gotham Arkham Asylum graphic novel. Of course, DC is not incapable of coming out with wonderful pieces from Alex Ross, Geoff Moore or Greg Rucka.

Creativity and Originality:
Coming up with fresh ideas is almost impossible this far into the comic world. When creating a comic universe, one needs fresh characters and concepts.
DC had to be scratching their head when they realized that Superman has the powers of ten heroes. Because of him the DC has made some interesting characters including Green Lantern, Green Arrow and Batman. The focus for DC is the greek gods and godesses. Not only do they have to make characters original with powers, but they need to give them good stories. Not every super hero loses his parents.
Marvel has some fresh characters because they focus more on science concepts. You get characters like Spiderman who has all the powers of a Spider. The Daredevil is a good example of an original story and neat powers. It seems that Marvel's attatchment to the hard sciences helps them create good characters. Of course there are lame guys who carry no originality like the Fantastic Four.
And there will always be strange crosses that look eerily similar, Batman and Daredevil, Deathstroke and Deadpool, Elongated Man and Mr. Fantastic.

Familiarity:
DC suffers in this area, it seems that it is impossible to get well aquainted with any hero outside the
