Ask yourself Does the value of hand made gifts from a child to a mother go down? No way! No matter what age a gift from the heart that you have taken your time to make will always be #1 in a mother's eye. Even if it is not for your mother and you are giving it to someone else for Mother's day - that is special as well. It takes so much more to think up a gift, and create it than to run out and buy a last minute gift that says nothing about the person they are.

First thing you want to know is what type of person will the gift be going to. What are their tastes, what do they like, etc. The perfect gift for one may not be so much the perfect gift for another. When taking the time to crochet a project, you want to know it will be cherished.

When you decide the best gift for the individual remember to corporate their favorite colors in the project. You can also do almost anything when cross-stitching into crochet. That alone gives you so many possibilities.

Are you creating a gift for a mom to be, or new mom? Crochet something for the baby - that will be cherished more than anything else to a new mom. You can find hats/beanies, booties, sweaters, pretty much anything for a newborn.

Towel Toppers These are crocheted toppers with buttons you can sew onto a chosen dishtowel. Choose a pattern dishtowel that you know the particular mom would love, match up the color yarn to a dominant color in the dish well, choose which type of topper you want and have fun! A fast, easy project any mom is sure to love.

Shawls This may not work for all mothers, like I said you really have to understand what the mother is like when choosing a gift to create. However, there are many different options available.

Ok, we have covered new moms, and every day moms. How about a gift for someone truly special to you? Here are a couple of ideas.

Does the person you know adore their children with everything they have? Here's a wonderful gift idea. Choose a purse pattern you think they would like. When you finish crocheting that, take some plastic a little larger than pocket photo size. Use a hole punch to go around the edges of the plastic and use yarn to stitch it onto the crocheted purse. They can slip photos of their children or grandchildren in the pockets you've just made.

Another great gift for a mom who absolutely adores her children is an afghan. The easiest way to do this is to make granny squares. Choose a black or white background color to crochet together in different areas of the afghan. You choose how big you want each area and cross-stitch the children's names into those areas. A truly cherished gift, I guarantee it!
