For anyone curious as to why 2007 is a year of incredible music, you only need to take one listen to Nine Inch Nails's latest CD, Year Zero. To start this review off: Yes, it's better than With Teeth. In fact, this is the record that fans felt "denied" from when Trent went for the catchy riff and hard rock style of that album over the sexy beats of The Downward Spiral or the moody The Fragile. However Year Zero is a perfect mashing of all of the better parts of all of those records. There is catchy hard rock in places, "Closer"-type material in others, and the gloomy pieces sifted through the album all with that industrial kick in the ass you would expect from NIN. That's not to say the album has its slow points, because it does. But this is the 21st century's version of The Wall and not just because of the plans to make a movie off of it. It has all the bombast, rough aggression, and political furor that Pink Floyd's landmark record had and it just fires on all cylinders.
