Financial planning in your 40s

by Allyjay

Well if you are like me and my husband and are forty then you should hopefully be finding yourselves in a better financial situation than ever before. Having had a mortgage now for fifteen years, the payments are not so debilitating as they were, your fast approaching the point when it will be finished, well at least you can see it on the far horizon. Yes the children are older and are more into designer clothes, clubs, expensive games but it is manageable. Your home is all kitted out with all the relevant furniture and the most expensive layout is freshening up the decor whenever needed. You understand the concept and importance of money now, your no longer at the nightclubs, drinking it away, buying expensive outfits, your more comfortable at home or at a restaurant and you really appreciate the finer things in life not take them for granted. All this is of course hypothetical if you married late, or are moving house, but from my prospective, money now is kept in check. Money coming in and going out is all set up on a computer programme allowing us to see where we stand each month and whether we can afford a little extravagance. We appreciate and look forward to our yearly holiday away and really savour every minute knowing that it took a great deal of hard work to get us there in the first place.
