1. There is no such thing as a text-book pregnancy! Each pregnancy is different, each woman is different, and even a woman who has more than one child, is not going to have the same experience with each pregnancy. Reading pregnancy books did NOT help me one bit, simply because my experiences have been so different each time!
2. Morning sickness never happens just in the morning, nor is it just the first trimester! I have had morning sickness with ALL of my pregnancies, at various times of the day and night, and not once has it stayed to just mornings, or just for the first trimester. And for the record, if you're prone to really bad sickness, it's just going to have to run it's course, I've found there's just not much help for it!
3. Maternity clothes NEVER fit right. I have NEVER been "big" enough to wear maternity clothes for more than 2 weeks, so it's also been a bit of a waste of money to even buy them. My last two children, I didn't even bother, just bought my normal jeans in a bigger size and larger shirts. Then there are women who get really big, and it's difficult to find maternity clothes for such a drastic change in their body! Even when I've had the "big" baby belly, my maternity clothes didn't fit right! What a waste!
4. Being pregnant in public, makes people think they have a right to give all sorts of unsolicited advice, ask nosy questions... and... worse still... TOUCH THE BELLY! I, being a rare breed of human, NEVER thought it okay to just randomly walk up and touch ANYONE, let alone a pregnant woman's stomach, so I had no idea people did that! I also never realized just how many people think it's okay to give unwanted and unsoliticited advice... Makes a pregnant woman want to wear a sign around her neck saying "Ignore the pregnant woman... or else!".
5. I never realized just how much I would fall in love with each of my children, and gaze at them in wonder and love after months of being kicked in places I never knew I had, blowing up to twice my normal size, and all the months of sickness... No one ever told me how awesome that feeling is! And it's that feeling that makes us do it all over again the next time!
