Humor: Friendship

There is a man who became friends with a hiccup. He gave it tenderness and care. When the hiccup was tired, the man would find the hiccup a pillow, and the man would cover the hiccup with a blanket.

One night, the hiccup woke suddenly, shiverring, and breathing frantically. The hiccup had had a bad dream. It dreamt that it had disappeared. It dreamt that someone had taught the man how to get rid of a hiccup.

But the man reassured the hiccup that he did not want to leave it.

However, the hiccup suspected the man liked a cough who he worked with.

Everynight, when the man returned home from work, the hiccup asked how his work had been, and without exception the man would make mention of something that the cough had done that night. For example, "The cough and I were running the registers, and it was really backed-up..." or, "The cough and I are going to switch hours on Wednesday..."

One night, the cough called the house when the man was gone, and the cough asked for the man.

The hiccup said he was not home, and asked if the cough wanted to leave a message. Well, one thing lead to another, and they got to talked, both making little comments about how funny and unusual the man sometimes was. Before they knew it, the cough and the hiccup had gotten acquainted with one another, and the hiccup no longer suspected the man of being anything other than colleagues with the cough.

When the man returned home that night, the hiccup gave him the message from the cough about wanting to trade shifts on Thursday.

The man said, "The cough wants to trade shifts on Wednesday AND Thursday?! I can't do that. I was planning to spend time with you on Thursday. I want to take you out to dinner, if that's okay?"

The hiccup smiled secretly inside, knowing that she was special to the man, and she handed him the phone so that he could call and tell the cough of the plans that he had made.

The man and the hiccup could not be separated, even by a cough.
