The legacy of Bob Dylan

BOB DYLAN: HIS LEGACY AND LEGEND

Bob Dylan playing in a small band as a teen and then traveling across America and observing the styles of Woody Guthrie, Arlo Guthrie, and Elvis Presley, and the ways and folklore of American people came up with his original tunes and songs and unique singing style. Highly self-educated he blends in themes from Greek Mythology, Christianity, and other historical legendary sources.

Bob Dylan arrived on the scene with the 60's, the sexual revolution, civil rights, and the assassinations of John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Malcolm X. The turmoil and change going on in America at the time was certainly felt by all American people, but only Bob Dylan would put that change into words and music that the people of the generation could understand.

Bob Dylan became a legend in his own time by composing and singing his own folk music based on the roots and legend of the lives of American people and of America itself. American folk tradition came alive with Bob Dylan.

Originally named Robert Zimmerman, Bob Dylan came from Minnesota and a modest Jewish family who owned a store. He would go on to college but dropped out after six months. He would rise above all his peers and become a symbol for the world. Even though only attending college for 6 months, he has received about 50 Honorary Doctorates in colleges and Universities across America for his songs, which are really poetry. His poetry is also taught in many colleges across America.

Much of Bob Dylan's early singing career was spent in Greenwich Village where he connected with the important people that would help further his career, such as producers, agents, and other folk singers like Joan Baez, one of his favorite people and a singing companion.

No one can touch Bob Dylan in style or talent. He has the ultimate gift. His unique way of singing moves your heart and soul; and you feel what he felt when he wrote the song and composed the music to go with it. He has to be a true genius.

He is the voice of the 60's movement, the hippies, Woodstock, the guy in prison, the lonely woman, the lonely guy, the forsaken lover, lost loves. Who can ever forget I want You, All Along the Watchtower, Blowin' In the Wind.

The folk music of Bob Dylan is Blues with a little mix of Country/Western.

His voice sings a soulful sound, his guitar plays a soulful tune, and his harmonica is always there to bring in the country, the prison,
