Knowledge is priceless, so I wouldn't worry about the inevitable debt...I just totally lied. I'm in so much debt right now it's ridiculous. I wasn't one of those lucky kids that had their education paid for, but I can't really complain about that because I know that my parents wanted me to develop good work ethic. I managed to graduate high school a little early and fundraised for a volunteer trip to Costa Rica. Once there, I had the greatest educational experience that still inspires my life. I was among the youngest participating in the program, working alongside many university graduates. I was fresh to the world and looking for guidance and after speaking with many volunteers and travellers, I came to realize that many of these graduates wern't doing anything relevant to their field of study. They wanted to go back to school and take a trade with a guaranteed job at the end. I went back home and decided to work and travel more because I had no idea what trade I wanted to do and I needed to explore my options before applying for a loan. I eventually studied within the holistic health field, but my situation caused me to withdraw from my program...I was dealing with chronic depression and panic attacks. I'm feeling much better now but didn't finish school, and am in such a financial position that going to school has become a luxury that I cannot indulge in. I've learnt a lot for my struggles and have a high respect for the academically committed, but for me it just doesn't seem to be in the cards! My brother is on his way to become a lawyer, my sister is fighting bush fires to save money to become a Naturopathic doctor, my father was a teacher...my uncle is a millionaire, but never finished highschool. I think we all have different paths to explore in life and however we deal with our challenges while we dabble in various opportunities is how we end up learning our biggest lessons. So, yeah it's worth it to go to college if you can afford to indulge in that luxury and especially if you have the charm to play the game once you're out in the real world...and if you don't go to college then there's no reason why you can't make it work, as long as you take advantage of your library card. Either way though, you need dicipline and a load of charm to make a buck in this day and age!
