How to prepare for your first horse-riding lesson

By choosing to learn how to ride a horse, you are entering a world of new opportunities, a wonderful skill, an enjoyable hobby and a fiery passion. You should be as happy as you are about your first ride, as it will serve as a new way to meet new people, make friends, get into the spirit of horse racing or the simply pleasures of a nice ride through the country lanes.

The first and hardest task at hand is to choose the right riding school for you. If you have family or friends who are into horses or know other fellow riders, then ask them to recommend you a good riding school. And just like choosing a college, visit your school and make sure it has all the facilities you might want, a good teacher and other accreditations. Once you are satisfied, begin the process to book your classes.

Then as your riding days comes nearer, the most important thing you can do to be fully prepared for your first lesson is to purchase a good quality safety riding hat. Make sure you go the extra mile in buying this equipment from good sellers and after investigating the product with other sellers and buyers. These Hats do not come cheap and they may save your life in any case so it is worth it. Before you finalize your purchase, make sure that hat fits perfectly on your head and make sure that the hat is not second hand. Second hand hats may look good from the outside and may be cheaper but they can hold unknown dangers as may be damaged or has product defects.

Also wear clothes that do not restrict movement. make sure that your trousers do not restrict your legs and get a fine pair of boots so your legs can stay on the stirrups. If you feel the need to buy jodhpurs or riding breeches and riding boots at this stage, you may do so but it is not recommended as you are only still in the stages of learning.

Now that you have your equipment and clothes ready, get to bed early and get up early. Eat a nice breakfast and if the need be, clam your mind. Your horse's reaction to you is reflective of your interactions with your horse. If you are not relaxed, then your horse tends to be a little bit on the edge. So relax and take it easy. Stretching your body and your legs might also be a good idea.

Overall, with these preparations you are well on your way to learning how to ride with ease. Your first ride will always live on in your memories for years to come. With a bit more classes, you will be good as a professional in no time.
