media had he handled the situation differently; there will be times when blogging and mainstream journalism intersects, as it has with Arianna Huffington's blog. Yet those bloggers were already part of the media before the project was ever undertaken. Bloggers; take advantage of whatever opportunities you can to learn about journalism from an academic perspective whenever possible. If you are making good money from advertising, it only makes sense to secure your future by proving yourself worthy with the academic credentials to back up your position. There are places in life that notoriety and being a tastemaker are not going to be able to take you. At the same time, the mainstream media should take blogging more seriously because these bloggers speak for the rest of us. Both individuals without the intellectual and academia background and those disaffected by what they were taught by the system are the main audiences of these bloggers, and their presence could be of some benefit if they are incorporated into the scene in the right way. Blogging is still a sophisticated means of self-publishing; if you're really that great, why isn't someone else helping you to do that already, if for no other reason than to benefit themselves...
