Poetry: Longing

I just wanted to tell you I know how you feel today
You think that's not possible, but I too often feel that way
I know the feelings that go on in your heart
They make you feel at times like it's ripped apart
But then a word or a little touch
Makes it all not hurt so much
Sometimes a wink with a little smile
makes all the same times seem worthwhile
And then quite suddenly you're all alone
and the tender warmth turns to cold grey stone
The dark comes over and the sun don't shine
Then the glow of the sun makes everything fine
You live in two worlds, one is dark & dreary
The other, when you find it, is bright & cheery
You often wonder if you should just go away
but that one little light makes you stay
You say to yourself, it can't go on this way
but then you lie awake just waiting for day
Cause you know when it gets here where you're heading for
and you say ol' heart take a little more
So when you're all upset and about to bust
hang in there shug, cause there's two of us
