Summer's the perfect time to lighten up on your beauty routine. The key to looking sensational? Keep it simple.

This is the season to show off some skin, and there are lots of products on the market that can add a natural-looking glow. Dove Energy Glow and Jergens Natural Glow lotion add a subtle shimmer that catches the sun's rays, while Bare Escentuals makes body shimmer minerals you can dust all over.

Heat and humidity can melt your make-up, so skip the heavy foundation and try tinted moisturiser instead. You can make your own by adding mineral powder foundation to your regular moisturiser for quick coverage with SPF protection.

When it comes to colours, look to your wardrobe for inspiration. Summer shades like coral or turquoise, neutral colours, and pale shimmer eye shadows are flattering on most skin tones. Leave dark browns, greys and jewel tones for fall and winter. Go easy on the eye liner, or leave it out altogether.

Three-in-one products like Nars' The Multiple are great for getting out the door fast. Just swipe a little on eyes, lips and cheeks and blend with fingertips for a simple, co-ordinated look. Add a little mascara, and you're good to go.

Of course, the number one beauty product for summer is bronzer. The most natural bronzers are brown, not orange, and some have gold mixed in. As with any make-up, it's a good idea to test a bronzer in natural light before you buy. After all, chances are you'll be spending a lot of time outdoors.

Whatever you use, just remember in summer that less is more. And let your natural beauty shine through.
