AAA membership: Is it worth it?

AAA today is not your father's program! AAA has expanded serves in the areas of Automotive, Travel, Financial and Insurance and more. Members can also subscribe to their free newsletter for updates on their programs and announcements of their latest savings and revamped programs.

Automotive. AAA members may receive discounted car loans and auto insurance at competitive rates. AAA also offers car buying services including research tools to find the car you want, and pre-negotiating with dealers for the price you want to pay for a car.

Travel. AAA today offers more than just the "Trip-Tik's" available in your father's day. They do still offer trip tickets, but with enhanced features. They also offer exclusive travel packages, deals on hotels and car rentals as well as destination packages at drastically reduced prices.

Financial. AAA members may be eligible for credit cards issued by the organization. AAA also offers mortgage, home equity, and car loans at competitive rates.
Insurance. AAA offers member life insurance, up to $50,000 with a guaranteed rate for up to 30 years, with no re-qualifying required. Members can also take advantage of temporary travel insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and hospital indemnity and loss of life policies.

AAA membership has more than paid for itself for our family. Two years ago, when my daughter was in college and moved off campus, we purchased an "extra" membership for her, for a total annual cost for our family of $192.00. She has had two flat tires changed and her car towed once in the past two years. Was it worth the money? It was for us, and our peace of mind, knowing she would not be stranded two hours away from us. I have also had a flat tire changed.

Last year, my husband lost his job and we have had to purchase very expensive "emergency" health insurance. My husband, my son and I are all on one prescription medication each. Because we are AAA members, we save about $30 per month on our prescription costs. AAA offers between 10% and 30% savings on many prescription medications. This is a little-known benefit to AAA members! ($30 x 12 = $360 saved per year!) That's a net "gain" of $168.00 per year for our family, just based on our prescription savings!
