We've become a nation of mewling hypocrites. We sit around our idiot boxes and join the TV commentators in condemning Michael Vick for involvement in dog fighting. If we flip to another channel, we can watch brave hunters in idiotic camo gear stalk and kill beautiful deer and wild turkeys. I guess it doesn't count for sport fishing, because everyone knows fish are too dumb to feel pain.

Or, we can flip around the channels some more and see horses and greyhounds run around in circles until they drop dead before they reach their fourth birthday. Of course, we don't see the early killing off of the weaker ones back at the farm, so that breeders can keep the species fit for future running around in circles and making gambling money.

Does anyone try to stop the massive killings of millions of domestically-grown animals every day so that we can eat fresh beef, pork and chicken? Or the lab animals that are tormented to slow death while ingesting new drugs, sliced open for brain functions, tasting poisons or testing skin lotions?

If we want to go into another other style of bloody dog fighting, how about the thrills in which pilots fly around wartime skies and murder each other just for the sport of it? For that kind of killing, they give out medals. Of course, all wars involve giving young people uniforms and guns and telling them to go out and fight with other young people until someone is dead. Like the fighting pit bull dogs, they'd naturally be friendly with each other until their owners/leaders/generals goad them on to mass murder.

So, just because Michael Vick is a grossly-overpaid, self-indulgent, bloodthirsty jerk who gets his jollies watching dogs chew each other to death, remember the old proverb: Let he who is without sin cast the first ... top-rated, prime-time TV show, "Killer Kanines.
