Although a hotel room can feel like a cold unfriendly place to start with, it is very easy to make it more comfortable.
Here are some tips:
Bring your own alarm clock. That way the first thing you will see every morning, is something familiar.
Take your own toiletries with you. They are probably much better quality than the ones the hotel provides, and you know that they work for you. This is very important if you have sensitive skin for example. I have used the hotel shower gel, and broken out in eczema. All I wanted to do was go home at that point, but it just wasn't possible.
Take scented candles, or whatever kind of air freshener you use at home. If it smells like home, it's more likely to feel like home.
If you normally have a cuddly toy on your bed, take it with you and put it on the hotel bed. The chambermaid won't laugh, many people do it.
If you have an mp3 player, or portable CD player, take your favourite music with you too. As well as being a comfort, it can drown out the noise of the neighbours having sex in the next room.
Now picture the room. Your toy is on the bed, the room smells lovely, you're listening to your favourite music, and you know that you will wake on time because your alarm clock has never let you down. Isn't that better?
All you need to do now, is treat yourself to a new book to read in bed before going to sleep.
If you do these things, you will feel right at home.
