Call it The Humor Habit
Some steps to put more laughter into your life.
One of the most common reasons people leave their jobs isn't because of money, but because they're unhappy,. Here are some tips to follow.
1. Practice self-effacing humor. Share something funny that happened to you.
2. Start your own collection of audiotapes or CDs that tickle your funny bone and keep them in your car. When traffic backs up, load up some humor and dump your frustration.
3. Keep a humor journal. Jot down funny things people say and amusing observations you make.
4. Escape voice mail jail. Keep a file folder next to your phone filled with materials that amuse you- cartoons, quotes, cards, photos- anything to keep your blood pressure down. Join a web site that e-mails a joke to you a day.
5. Keep a humorous prop handy. Maybe it's a water gun, a squishy ball or a clown nose. One of my favorite pins reads "Stop me before I become my mother!" I like a magic wand for those days when people make impossible demands. Toys aren't just for kids.
6. Create a play list. Remember fun? It might include games, playing with your kids or dog, going skating, watercoloring, bowling, swimming-anything to reduce anger and stress.
7. Lighten up your environment. Display funny pictures and posters-baby photos, pet monuments, humorous birthday party snapshots, any image that recalls laughter moments.
8. Recite the Humor Habit Pledge. "I don't want to live my life crabby. I'd rather be healthy and happy. So I pledge I'll find humor around me...I'll make sure fun people and tools surround me..When there's a humorous chance I must grab it..so I can develop my own Humor Habit!"
