NIGHT FLIGHT
Fly this night with the albatross
Soar the heavens and touch the stars
Whilst lesser mortals in deepest slumber
Dream their mundane dreams
Seven miles below.
Streak across this blackest night
Spill liquid moonlight from silvered wing
Whilst cities and seas slip by, faint seen
Twinkling fireflies pinned on darkest velvet
Seven miles below.
To fall ever upwards almost touching heaven
Sinking deeper and deeper into the enfolding night
Hear the whispered scream as dragons breath
Rents the icy air and contrails mark their passing to the oceans
Seven miles below.
To span the globe this endless night
To know the dawn. Soft gilding now, the aircrafts frame
And watch with awe a new days birth
Spill golden light across tired but happy faces
The ocean ends and thrusting from her turquoise bed Australia beckons
Down we sweep to her outstretched arms
Seven miles below
