How concerned are Americans about US foreign affairs?

Americans are very concerned with US foreign affairs. Recent polls continue to assert that the most important issues in the minds of voters are the War in Iraq and illegal immigration, pushing domestic issues like education, health care and poverty down the list. National security, namely our efforts to stop terrorism worldwide in order to protect our own interests, is usually high in voters' minds as well.

The most polarizing issue in American politics continues to be "How long must the United States remain in Iraq"? With the death toll of American troops rapidly growing and our image around the world drastically changing, citizens of the United States are concerned about the our military situation.

Casualties in Iraq are making headlines daily and large, in-depth articles about our efforts at the front line constantly appear in Newsweek and Time. With this all in mind, it is not surprise that foreign policy should be the most important issue to citizens of the United States. With our increasingly tense relationship with Russia and the rapidly growing economies of Asia, namely India and China, our role in the world's economy and security should become a huge priority. Americans have picked up on this and are becoming more savvy in matters of international relations, possibly at the expense of matters of great importance in our own nation.
