you to help me find a way to make Troy see I don't hate him and get him to like me."pleaded Jasmine.
Janet considered this, stood up, looked towards the back of the bus where he sat and shouted "Hey Troy-" but Jasmine pulled her down.
"What are you doing?" hissed Jasmine.
"You want him to know you like him so I was just going to tell him. What's the big deal? This isn't a mission that requires stealth, you know." Janet put her arm around her sister and shook her a bit. "Jassy, Jassy what am I to do with you? You take things way too seriously. Lighten up, or you'll end up with grey hair before you're twenty."
This had the desired effect. Jasmine gasped and took several calming breathes. They had arrived at school and all was pandemonium as the students hustled, bustled and jostled their way to their lockers and home rooms.
Janet decided to take matters into her own hands. She had to get Troy on his own. She found him in the senior hallway leaning back in his chair joking with a group of friends. As she approached, the group fell silent staring at her with a mixture of curiosity and unmistakable fear. Unknown to Janet most boys in school called her the Dragon Lady because she could slew a group of boy with merely a contemptuous glance.
"Sorry boys, I didn't mean to interrupt but I need a word with Lover-boy. Do excuse us." Janet grabbed Troy's arm and almost dragged him away. To say that Troy was shocked would be an understatement. Janet had never said more than hello to him.
Janet surveyed her sister's idea of perfection and an impish smile formed before she said "We need to talk about what happened between you and Jasmine this morning." She was not prepared for the effect these words had on Troy. He suddenly became flushed and nervous. Realization hit her like a brick in the face.
"You like Jasmine, don't you?" Janet asked slowly, already knowing the answer. She saw the panic flicker in his eyes. Wow, he had it as bad as Jasmine, she thought to herself.
"No!" Troy shouted.
She raised an eyebrow. "Me thinks thy doth protest too much." replied Janet, her smile widening. She stared him down until finally he slumped against the wall.
"Is it that obvious? Please don't tell her. I know she hates me but I think she's just..so..perfect."
Troy had the same dejected yet dreamy look that Jasmine had that morning. This was just too for Janet. She started laughing. Troy glared at her. He was not in the mood for being made fun of.
"Troy, Jasmine is inexplicably enamored, head-over-heels crazy, completely infatuated and madly in love with you and if you have half the brain she says you have, you better ask her out today before the two of you make me nuts!" Janet told him vehemently.
Later that day Janet sat behind the two love birds shaking her head wondering if she could make a career out of this. Slogans started forming in her head. "Cut-the-bull dating services", "Get a grip matchmaking" and "Reality check for the lovelorn". These came swiftly to mind but she thought it would be best if only someone would find a cure for this insanity we call high school romance.
