The consequences of sleep deprivation

Not sleeping enough really can affect your every day life as well as your health. Sleep is an important part of our well being and if you are sleep deprived it is important to realize that it could be do to a sleep disorder. You should talk to your doctor if it persists for a period of time. Most adults need 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night.

Many people live for years without realizing that they have a sleep disorder. Many people put if as thinking that they are just stressed out and live with sleep deprivation, but it can be fixed. Be aware of the way that you sleep and feel through out the day and talk to your doctor about it.

Here are some of the consequences sleep deprivation can have on your live ~

Decreased Performance and Alertness ~ when you do not sleep enough it causes you to not be as alert as you should be if you sleep well and feel rested. Just losing about an hour and a half a night can decrease your alertness by as much as 32%.

Accidents ~ Accidents can happen both in the work place as well as at home and at work. When you are sleep deprived you are not as aware as you could be, so you are not as careful as you should be. Thousands of deaths occur each year in cars due to drivers falling asleep at the wheel.

Stress and Irritability ~ When you are sleep deprived you may become very moody and irritated at everything. This can affect your relationships with everyone around you.

Memory Loss ~ Sleep deprivation can affect your memory, it affects your ability to think and process information.

There are also major problems that you can concur if you are sleep deprived for a long period of time. They are medical illness that can occur by not allowing your body to rest.

High Blood Pressure
Heart Disease
Stroke
Depression and other mood disorders
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
Obesity

Sleep plays a very important part of out health. Sleep gives your body a chance to rest and allows it to prepare for the next day. Your brain needs to rest and recharge. When you sleep it allows your whole body to repair itself and recharge. So if you do not give your body an adequate time to rest and repair itself, it can affect your immune system.

Sleep is absolutely necessary for every living creature! Without it we can not function properly and efficiently. If you are experiencing difficulty falling or staying asleep then try to change a few things around.

Only use your bedroom for sleeping. Do not eat, watch T.V. or do anything else in your room. Make it your sanctuary for resting
