Are you kidding me ? I cannot believe that we are even discussing this. Usually, I strive to see the common ground in most arguments ( and I can see it in this particular case ), but it would be patronizing to us as human beings to even consider this subject matter as a requirement for all restaurants.
I am sure most of us remember ourselves as kids being told what to do, what to eat, what not to eat, and so on, and I sincerely do not wish to be subjected to that kind of micromanaging as an adult. I believe as smart people, we should start acting like one (or pretend to be one), by taking responsibility for our own choices, especially when it comes to those of a dietary nature.
Those on the opposing side of this debate have given reasons like "it would help me make better choices". Well, a quick trip to a "MickeyDees" would tell you that the nutritional info pasted behind each Big Mac and Fries Package hasn't yet hurt McDonald's bottom line; Even somewhat healthy Subway hasn't scared away its local clientele.
More importantly, restaurants rate high up there as an option for a romantic outing with one's significant other, and I am sure most of you would have lost your "romantic mojo" by the end of the evening if you had to dwell on a menu staring you right at the face and mocking every nutritional choice you have made in the past and are going to make in the future. Honestly, when we go out to eat we are usually trying to give ourselves a treat, or break free from the doldrums of constant home cooking, so why go ahead and spoil such a good thing.
What I'm trying to say is that making this a law for restaurants would once again make us a mockery to the world ( Oh yes, we are being laughed at). We seriously need to stop acting like babies in diapers and bibs ,take charge of our lives like adults, and expend more energy on issues that warrant our Grey matter like world peace, education, and debt eradication.
I travel a lot, Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, and I still haven't come across a restaurant flying their nutritional info like it were the flag of America, and I must tell you, those countries do have a lot of slim but healthy people running around. The difference- they get off their behinds, never complain and wake up everyday to take responsibility for their choices.
