Search engine evolution: Where they started and where they are today

Lycos that was started at Carnegie Mellon in 1994, Alto Vista, a great search engine at first, and the first natural language one. It became cluttered and that alongside bad management ended its fifteen minutes' of fame.

Going on today are takeovers: this group and that group taking over and dominating and then up will come another and be the brightest fetch on the market. For a while. Google made a splash and is still in there splashing around all over the world wide web but as of late there have been a few spider bites' noticeable. It seems their appetite for big and better nets with which to trap their prey has a few loop holes in it.

Yet there is no denying the fact, Googling is a satisfying way to get information when we want it now. And the other two big competitors, Yahoo, and Microsoft are out to see that Google's O's don't keep morphing into zero's following a number.

Microsoft, probably already considering Google dead in the water, has started an unobtrusive little modest looking Live search. It is so devoid of bigness, it is at first almost overlooked. I was going out of my way getting to Google and partaking of their new services when right before my eyes Live Search stood patiently waiting. But don't get me wrong, once it gets you hooked, it holds on fast.
