Online business networking: Does it work?

by Paul Lines

Created on: July 18, 2007

Like all business promotional efforts, online business networking will not work, unless you put the effort into it. Just setting up the online business network and hoping will not produce a result, unless you are extremely fortunate.

A new website or other online networking tool will not produce customers on its own. You need to go out into the ether and sell it. Even if you have little money to devote to marketing you network business this should not prove to be an obstacle. There are ways to overcome this problem. The answer is to get talking to people. One way to do this is to become involved with newsgroups and forums that are relevant to the business you operate.

Another avenue is freely offer advice. There are an enormous number of newsletters and sites on line that have space to fill. Some of them will be relevant to what you are offering. Even if you have to write an article for them, or construct an advice column for free, as long as your business name and Internet address is included it will drive traffic to your site.

A similar operation to the above can be carried out with land-based publications such as newspapers and magazines. The same advice applies as has already been given for Intent publications. Get you name and web address in front of an audience.

Of course, it is now even possible to create you very own online Radio station. Even if it only gets one listener at first, this is another way of spreading the word about your business.

It is important to remember that marketing and promotion of any business is like throwing a pebble into a lake. Each stone you throw in will, in a short space of time, produce ever-increasing ripples. It is the same with your online business networking. Each time you say you name to one person that person may say it to another, or even two or three, and so the word spreads. It may take a while to start producing results, but once it does, the responses will begin to build.
