Weed free gardening

by Caveat

Weed free means preparing the ground thoroughly and ensuring that it iw well nourished with organic mulch made in your perennial mulch maker. Weed free realy means that the topsoil has been thoroughly dug over and new balck earth, shovelled from the bottom of your mulch maker, introduced.

Of course your mulch may contain black and white newsprint, egg boxes aprganic kitchen waste, scraps of Styrofoam and garden cuttings. Never place these things directly on the soil near your plants until they become good black earth. In their original state they are only of use in the garden when dug deep into a trench. Left on or close to the surface they can encourage mold, snails and other creatures that will enjoy your seedlings before you.

Next check the ph balance of your soil. This will need attention to ensure the maximum food value for your seedlings. Of course your seedling have been started in egg containers which are already disintegrating from their soil and extra watering. Each seedling can then be carefully planted in the prepared rows.

Knowing the ph balance will allow you to plant sympathetic plants close together. A surround of marigolds will help to keep many diseases away from your plants. Careful hoeing of the loose black earth will maintain a weed free garden with the minimum of work. Lose soil will also deter those larger animals that want to munch on your hew growth.

Never use untreated mulch such as newspaper, wood bark or plastic in your garden. This will destroy the healthy organic growth of your healthy organic vegetables. It may also choke or harm animals who come close to your garden.
